At the end of a month-long trip to Kalymnos (Greece), Nico had a great day of performance climbing. After 10 days working on “Gora guta gutarak”, an open project located at the sector Odyssey, he finally managed the first ascent of this new power test piece!

On the 4th day working the line he fell super close to doing it, but as the weather shifted, bringing hotter temperatures and humidity, subsequent attempts wouldn’t get him back to his high point. The route tested Nico’s head and nerves as each attempt seemed more dependent on the weather and conditions than his actual fitness. His stubborn efforts came to success just a few days before his trip ended on the best last crisp day of the season. “Gora guta gutarak” had been bolted by the active local climber Aris Mavrommatis. Its unusual name comes from Euskara, the Basque language, and means, “Glory to us and all those like us.”

As far as for the difficulty Nico proposes 8c+ but since the difficulty is concentrated on a very short fingery section that’s very condition dependent, the route could be suiting other people in different ways so it leaves room for different opinions.

The same day Nicolas onsighted “Gaia”, a classic 8b that had never been onsighted before.

Earlier on his trip Nico has quickly sent “Los Kukos” and “Lucky Luca Extension” both 8c. He also managed onsights of 7 routes in the 8a/8a+ range.
